Datos del viaje

in order to have enough time to visit all the places i wanted to see, I decided to postphone my flight to sydney and to stay longer in south america. changing the date of my flight was no problem and i felt good with the decision. actually i could have spent the entire 6 months of my journey only in south america. it´s a beautiful and huge continent with sooooo many nice places and things to see... but on the other hand you just can´t see everything, something you also have to learn and acept when travelling, especially since you are all the time meeting travellers who are telling you about other nice pla! ces they have been to... somtimes it´s not so easy to travel calmly and it happens that arriving at one place your mind is already set to move on to the next place you wanna visit. i noticed this phenomeno with a lot of travellers and kept telling myself that this isn´t the way of travelling i was looking forward to! after having been in company for such a long time in uruguay, i was looking forward to doing this journey! by myself. my foot was a lot better as well and i started walkin g normal again, trying to not put too much weight on the injured heal.

LIMA

so on april, 14th very early in the morning, i was taking the plan (airline taca, never heard of them but definatly can recommend them!) to LIMA in peru, where i arrived at 10 am local time. lima was just a stop-over on my way to cusco, so i only had 21 hours to see the city. in brasil, i had met a girl, daniela, from lima and she straight offered me to spend the day with me. it was great to be with a local as the experience is a completely different one, especially if you don´t have a lot of time in a place. daniela and her brother picked me up from the airport and after having seen their cool house (reminded me a bit of dali´s house, really cool) they took me to a typical peruian restaurant where we had "cebiche de pescado", a typical dish which is raw fish in lemon sauce with sweet potatos (in peru they are having more then 2000 !!!! different kind of potatos) and a special mais,! served as popcorn. delicious! i for the first time drunk INKA COLA, a yellow lemonade, similar to sprite, from peru. the name and the branding are really cool and followed me throughout my journey within peru. after lunch dani had a driving lesson and i visited the center before meeting her again in a very modern typical american mall. the center of lima reminded me a bit of caracas. also quite chaotic and dangerous. some nice buildings to visit but nothing you have to come back to. at night, dani, her brother and me decided to go out. since i had to be at the airport at 4.30 a.m, we just put my backpack in the trunk of the car and drove to a nice bar, where i tried the famous PISCO SOUR, the typical peruian drink. very "lecker"! after that we went to a club, where we danced the night away to all kind of music, including salsa. dani´s brother was a fantastic dancer and showed me some steps. a bit tired but very happy with the day, they left me at t! he airport and i travelled on to CUSCO.

CUSCO

CUSCO with its 3.600m altitude is an amazing place to come to. already from the plane we could see the SACRED VALLEY, a famous INKA RUIN. the very thin air combined with the lack of sleep made me go to bed straight away. in the afternoon i explored the center a little bit and made plans to hike to some close inka ruins the next day. at night, i drunk a coca mate (hot water with coca leaves) on the terrace of my hostal, enjoying the beautiful view over cusco. it felt great to finally be there! the coca leafes are supposed to help your body to slowly adapt to the few oxygen in the air of these high altitudes. being chewed by many peruians all day it also helps against freezing, hunger and tiredness. a bag of coca leafes costs about 10c, nothing! the taste when chewing it is aweful and your mouth and tongue start to feel a bit numb.
