San Pedro de Atacama
san pedro de Atacama was the end of a 3-day trip from bolivia through the "salt desert" of Uyuni, passing dali-like landscape, vulcanos, snowmountains, colourful lagunes,... a magic trip and definatly a highlight of my journey (see my summary of bolivia).
coming to 20C warm and beautiful san pedro felt very nice. the small, laid-back town has a hippie touch to it and reminded me of jericoacoara in brasil, just without beach and ocean but surrounded by wonderful nature. in san pedro you can do all outdoor sports such as mountain biking, hiking, climbing, rafting,... nature and landscape are beautiful! the town itself offers lots of nice restaurants, all playing nice music and having open fires at night to heat the place. a very cozy and relaxed atmosphere. unfortunatly entire chile is very expensive and san pedro de atacama ev! en more. you find almost european prices which is the reason for most of the travellers to not stay for very long.
i was renting a bike one day to explore the area. the weather was wonderful and i enjoyed the day at lot. in the evening i biked 15km to "valle de la luna", a famous volcane area where you can observe wonderful sunsets. unfortunatly i missed the sunset just a second and having been biked all the way (no, its not steep at all, very "facil" (easy) - as the guy renting me the bike assured... yes, right, not steep. just the last 3 (!) km which only went up, not to talk about the bad road all the way!!), i got there more than exhausted. fortunatly i got to know a nice group of travellers which brought me and my bike back to san pedro by bus. puhhh, enough sport for the next days...
the next day i already moved on. next destination: salta - back to argentina :-)
